Car insurance is compulsory in Australia and many other countries around the world to cover the cost of injuries or death to a third party in an accident. In Australia, this is known as compulsory third party insurance, or CTP. To protect your car and your bank balance though, it is strongly recommended that you get comprehensive car insurance to also cover you for damage to yours and a third party’s vehicle.  The cost of this depends on factors like age, gender, the model of car and how often you use the car.

Newlywed Kills Husband For Insurance Money And Receives The Shock Of Her Life

Cleveland woman, Uloma Curry-Walker, allegedly arranged for the murder of her newlywed husband, William Walker, in order to collect on his insurance policy. However, things didn’t go quite as planned. Shocking Twist: Uloma Curry-Walker and fireman William Walker were married in July of 2013. Four months into their marriage, William lost his life when he was shot in the chest multiple times. That night, on November 3rd, his wife asked him to get some food for her. When he returned, he was ambushed in his driveway by Ryan Dorty. Curry-Walker called 911 to report the murder to get him some help, but he died. Heartbroken, Curry-Walker had a difficult time getting over the loss of her husband. Not because she loved him so much but Curry-Walker wasn’t the beneficiary on his $100,000 insurance policy. Walker had yet to put the life insurance policy in Curry-Walker’s name. As a result, the entire $100K policy went to his first wife.

Finding herself in a lot of debt, Curry-Walker had to sell most of her belongings. She couldn’t afford to stay in her home so she had to move in with a relative in North Carolina. When her car was repossessed, police found a box containing Walker’s ashes in the back seat. Prior to her husband’s death, Curry-Walker was already in a great deal of debt. After getting into deep credit card debt and taking out loans that she couldn’t repay, she began to plot quick ways to get more money.

After a thorough investigation, police officers arrested Ryan Dorty for murdering Walker. During the investigation, Dorty revealed that he was hired to kill Walker by Curry-Walker’s daughter. According to CBS News, Curry-Walker’s daughter was arrested and she agreed to testify against her mother. Curry-Walker’s daughter revealed that her mother approached her and her boyfriend, Chad Padgett, about her plan to kill Walker. Drowning in debt, Curry-Walker believed her husband’s insurance policy would be her lifeline. Curry-Walker gave Padgett a $1,000 down payment to kill her husband with the promise that he would receive more once the insurance company paid her. Unable to carry out the murder, Padgett contacted his cousin, Chris Hein, to carry out the crime. Hein tried but failed so he then asked Dorty who succeeded.

The daughter, Padgett, Hein and Dorty testified against Curry-Walker at trial as part of plea deal for their roles in the murder conspiracy. Hein agreed to a sentence of 18 years to life; Padgett 28 years to life; and Dorty 23 years to life. Prosecutors agreed not to seek adult charges against Curry-Walker’s daughter. Curry-Walker now faces up to life in prison for the murder plot against her late husband. She was convicted of the murder on July 7, 2017 and her sentencing will take place on August 8th.

As You Lose Your Coverage, Insurance Companies Will Get A $145 Billion Tax Cut From Trumpcare

The Republican health care bill will cause at least 22 million people to lose their insurance, and others will have to pay more while getting less, but according to the Americans For Tax Fairness, the top 8 insurance corporations will get a $72 billion tax cut.

According to statement from the Americans For Tax Fairness provided to PoliticusUSA, “While millions of people will lose their health insurance and health coverage as a result of Republican plans to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA), the nation’s 8 largest health insurance corporations will get a tax cut of about $72 billion over the next decade, according to new estimates from Americans for Tax Fairness. These companies will get nearly half of the $145 billion 10-year tax cut for the entire insurance industry estimated by the Joint Committee on Taxation.”

The financial priorities tell the real story of the Republican health care bill. The Senate bill is not about health care at all. The purpose of the legislation is to cut taxes for the wealthy and corporations while redistributing money spent on health insurance subsidies and coverage to the wealthy in the form of tax cuts.

“It’s appalling that Republicans in Congress would yank healthcare from 20 million people and give insurance companies a $72 billion tax cut,” said Frank Clemente, executive director of Americans for Tax Fairness. “Outrageous. President Trump promised not to cut Medicaid, and Republicans should keep that promise. We can’t afford any health care legislation that takes coverage away from Americans so that wealthy corporations can have a tax cut.”

The fact that Senate Republicans would try to pass such legislation indicates that the party is owned by billionaires and corporations. People last is the motto of Trump’s Republican Party, and any Senator who votes for this horrid bill deserves to immediately lose their seat.

The little-known tip for saving money on your car insurance

Are you aware of all the factors influencing the costs of your insurance? For example, does your credit score affect your car insurance rates? If you live in California, Massachusetts, or Hawaii, the answer is no. For residents of all the other states, the answer is yes, thanks to the concept of credit-based insurance scoring.

Auto insurers use certain information from your credit report to assess how likely you are to file a claim. The concept dates back to the mid-1990s, when auto insurers began researching whether FICO credit scores correlated with higher levels of claims. During the 2000s, separate studies at the University of Texas and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) confirmed a statistical correlation between credit scores and costs to insurance companies.

Unfortunately, you can't use your standard credit score to assess the effect on your rate. Auto insurers develop their own score based on specific information from your credit report, and the information used may vary by company. The process may be outsourced — for example, Esurance uses LexisNexis to cull information from your report and determine a credit-based insurance score.

Chief financial analyst for Bankrate.com Greg McBride sums it up succinctly: "They're looking for ways to evaluate your risk, and creditworthiness is one of those metrics." Credit-based insurance scores are simply a variation on that theme.

The savings on auto insurance from superior credit can be significant, reaching thousands of dollars per year in certain states. In 2015, Consumer Reports used an interactive color-coded map to illustrate the amount of extra costs passed on to consumers with poorer credit scores by state. The results are sobering, and it's likely that the differences haven't improved since then.

You may be able to obtain a copy of your credit-based insurance score through your insurer, but the insurer is not obligated to give you details on how the score is created. Your best strategy to improve your credit-based insurance score is to take steps to raise your overall credit score and expect the insurance score to follow. Learn more about what makes up a credit score and how to raise your credit score in our new free eBook, Give Yourself Credit.

Start by assessing your credit report. Acquire a copy of your report from each of the three major credit bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) and review it for errors. Credit Manager can provide you with your three credit reports from Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax within minutes. Address any errors that you find through the bureaus.

Next, make sure that you continue to make all payments on time and manage your credit wisely. Keep balances flat or decreasing. Be reluctant to take on new debt and/or open new lines of credit. Aim to keep your overall credit utilization (the amount of available credit relative to the amount you use) as low as possible. Credit utilization below 20 percent is a reasonable goal. Over time, your credit score should increase and bring you better rate offers on everything from credit cards to loans to insurance.

You may think that simply paying your bills in full and on time is enough to earn a stellar credit score, but creditors need to see more. Gerri Detweiler, head of market education for Nav, relates the story of her father, who is very responsible and reliable with money. He was notified by his insurance agency that he didn't qualify for the best insurance rate because he used so little credit that his current risk was poorly defined. "Credit is a tool, and building your credit history can help you not only get better deals when you borrow but also on things like auto and home insurance, or other places that will check your credit," says Detweiler.

Keep in mind that a good credit-based insurance score does not guarantee a good auto insurance rate. There are many factors that can raise your rate, ranging from the type of car you drive and your current driving habits to your past driving history and whether or not you add high-risk drivers (such as teenagers) to your insurance policy. Remember this when you see the rate increase from adding your son or daughter to your policy, and remind yourself: If you hadn't improved your credit score, your rates could be a lot worse.

You can check your credit score and read your credit report for free within minutes using Credit Manager by MoneyTips.

Utah’s Mike Lee compares Obamacare to car insurance in online town hall discussing health care bill

“Imagine if car insurance companies were required to charge everyone the same car insurance rate regardless of how likely they were to get into an accident,” he said.
In explaining how he sees the amendment as improving upon the Affordable Care Act, Lee compared health care coverage to car insurance.
“Now, of course, I understand car insurance and health insurance are very different products,” Lee added.
The senator’s 57-minute online town hall, where he addressed 15 questions on health care, had brief spots of tension along those lines.
“People can choose not to drive, but many people need health care in order to survive.”
